Systematically disenfranchised means to purposely take power away from a community or person. For example communities of color have been through experiences like this, such as being treated unequal because of how they look. Communities of color are being systematically disenfranchised through unequal laws and by being criminalized. In order to reclaim power, a good thing to do is to protest. One way communities of color are being systematically disenfranchised is through laws such as the Jim Crow laws and the Arizona SB 1070. In the article What was Jim Crow laws? it talks about the Jim Crow laws of 1877 which were laws that segregated white people and people of color. In this article it states A black male could not offer his hand with a white male because it implied being socially equal. This could lead to conflict because the rights of people of color were being taken away making it bad to interact with other communities of people. This law affects communities of color a lot, however another law that also affect them is the Arizona SB 1070 law. The article Arizona once feared immigration law talks about the Arizona SB 1070 law of 2010 also known as the Arizona immigration law. This law was a law that allowed the police to detain or arrest someone with the suspension of them not being in the U.S legally because of the way they look. Other communities especially the latino community would have to live in constant fear of being arrested simply because of their appearance. Also it talks about how these marches were effective to what they were fighting for. In this article the most successful march was the march on washington for jobs and freedom where approximately 250,000 people participated in this 1963 civil right march in DC. The results of this would be to reclaim their power and to get back what was theirs which was their rights and freedom. Although the washington march was the most successful march in American History, the 1963 East LA walkout was the most successful and important walkout. Marching is a great method to be heard but so are walkouts. Despite the fact that there are more ways that communities of colors are being systematically disenfranchised and we need to change this and instead of repeating the past we need to prevent it. African Americans should not be treated unequally because of their race , the Latino community shouldnt be scared to be pulled over because of how they look, and the LGBT community shouldnt have to be described as sick people because of their sexual orientation. Hitle The Man Behind the Hate Essay One word. One word that is more powerful than any weapon. One word that can spread fear through everyone. One word powerful enough to control a man. One man powerful enough to control millions. Adolph Hitler did not have hate in his heart all of his life, but when he was exposed to it, he gained it fast and furiously and eleven million dead bodies is what he had to April 20, 1889 was the day in which Adolph Hitler was born. On this day, a seed was planted, a seed of hate. The seed by itself was harmless, but it was up to Hitler from this day on if he would let this seed grow. As a boy, Adolph went to church often and sang in the choir. One day he carved a symbol very similar to a swastika in one of the benches at his church. (htcl. org) Who would know that this boys carving in a bench would some day represent the ultimate hate. During elementary school, Adolph got very good grades and showed the signs of being a very intelligent individual. However, he got poor grades in high school and this made his easily-tempered father, Alois Hitler, very angry. Alois wanted his son to be a civil servant, but Adolph did not want this. He wanted to be an artist. Alois Hitler died in 1903. Two and a half years after his fathers death, Adolph dropped out of high school. At this time he was sixteen. His mother drew a widows pension and owned some property. Because of this, Adolph did not have to work. Instead, he spent his time reading books, drawing To fulfill his dream of becoming an artist, he moved to Vienna, Austria where the Academy of Arts was located. In 1906 he tried out for the Academy and failed. He tried out again a year later, really thinking that he would make it. To his surprise, he failed again. The dean of the academy even told Hitler right to his face that he would never make it as an artist. This crushed him and left him at a dead end. Because he had no high school iploma, there were no real jobs for him. He survived by selling pictures he had drawn of famous landmarks and selling them as postcards. (Granger, p. 45) Just imagine, if Hitler had a little bit more talent, eleven million lives From what I have told you so far, you are probably thinking that this is a pretty normal guy. But you have to remember, Hitlers seed of hate has yet to have been exposed to the things that will make it grow. Well it is now where society helps Hitlers seed grow. Just as Hitler influenced society while he was in power, society influenced him before he was in power. The only thing that influenced society was ignorance. Therefore we can say that Hitler, himself, was influenced by ignorance. And when a man as powerul as Hitler was gains a thing like ignorance, it can only cause destruction. Hitler was now starting to read a publication which claimed that the Aryan race was superior and that the Jews and communists were the causers of all problems. How convenient. He now had someone to blame for all of his misfortunes. It was the Jews fault he did not make it to the Art Academy. It was the Jews fault he was poor. He was Aryan, therefor he was superior. What facts or logic did this publication have? None. All it brought was hate. Hate that was fueled by ignorance. Hate that made some of the Aryans feel better, one of those Aryans being Adolph Hitler. In 1913, he moved to Munich, Germany. He was now starting to show a lot of loyalty to Germany and the Aryan race. For all of the loyalty he showed to the German/Aryan race, or in Hitlers eyes the superior race, he showed even more disloyalty to anything that was not German/Aryan. In 1914, World War I broke out. Hitler saw this as a great opportunity to show his loyalty towards his country, the fatherland. Hitler was a good soldier and received two awards of bravery. He was assigned the job of going to meetings of groups that sprang up and report on them. Hitler was not really excited about the assignment, but on September 12, 1919, he was sent to investigate a small group which called themselves the German Workers Party. The group mainly talked about the countrys problems and how the Jews, communists, and others were threatening the master race, the Aryan race. A man then claimed that Bavaria should separate from Germany. Hitler immediately stood up and argued that Germany and Germans must unite to survive. His natural ability to speak impressed the leader of the group. (Granger, p. 80) Hitler joined the group and quickly became its leader. The name of the group became the Nazis and they quickly began to gain members. He was now spreading his hate through other people. Hitler also organized a private army alled the storm troopers who used the swastika as their symbol. (Hoffmann, P. 254) On November 8, 1923, Hitler and the Storm Troopers tried to take over the Bavarian government but they were stopped and Hitler was sent to While in prison, he wrote his book called Mein Kampf (My Struggle). The book spoke of how the Aryans must stay pure and not marry Jews or Slavs and other prejudice ideas. Many people bought the book. Many people When Hitler got out of prison, he quickly started to get the Nazi party back together. In 1932, the worldwide Great Depression was hitting Germany and its leaders struggled to give the nation political stability. Since the country was in chaos after the war, and was forced to pay billions in damages, the Germans saw hope in Adolf Hitler. In that years elections, the Nazis were the strongest party. Hitler told the people what they wanted to hear. Only a few people could see through his elaborate speeches and his big blue eyes. Those few were not enough. On January 30, 1933, Hitler Hitler in his speeches blamed the Jews and Communists for their misfortunes and many listed. Unemployment was very high at that time standing at about 25%. Hitler also spoke out against the unfairness of the Versailles treaty. Germany lost a lot of its territory. The Empire was no more. He believed the pure Aryan race is destined to rule the world and wanted to build an Empire that would last a 1000 years. He preached that all Germans must unite in order for this goal to succeed. After he came into power, the Nazi party took control over every aspect of every day life. He also gave orders to set up a special force which would be used to transport and take care of all political prisioners and people thought to be inferior. The name of the force was the feared SS. Mass propaganda was used to persuade the German people that the Fuhrer would make the country strong and powerful again. We see people being put on death row for murdering one person and we wonder how someone could ever kill someone. We see a serial killer kill sixteen people and wonder how a person could be so sick. How are we supposed to react to someone who killed eleven million people? People just dont realize how horrible the holocaust was. Imagine losing a loved one. Now imagine feeling that pain eleven million times. On April 30, 1945, Hitler killed his last person, himself. The hate inside of a man had finally died, but the hate he spread onto others is still seen today. The scar of Hitlers hate is still seen today. But if the world were to look at each of those eleven million as people and not as numbers, the scar would be so much deeper. However, to society, if you kill one man it is a tragedy, but if you kill a million men its just a statistic.

The major forms of social control that I found were; consumerism, security, technology, location, conformity, and standards of behavior. Through these forms of social controls, Disney is able to control its visitors and workers. Consumerism at Disney starts before the visitors even get to Disney World. The consumerism starts with the pictures in the brochures. Selling the visitors on Disney World even before they get there. Showing pictures of happy families enjoying themselves at Disney World sells the idea of a safe and nice vacation to the visitors. When the visitor finally arrives at Disney, they are bombarded with products that have the Disney logo on them. Selling the visitors official Disney products. The products sold at Disney symbolize the goodness that Disney possesses. When the visitors purchase these products of memorabilia, it gives them the identity that they are good also, just like Disney is. As Karen Klugman says in the book, Unless you live in Orlando and watch Channel 6 or know someone who works at the parks, you have probably never heard of any problems (104). I personally have never heard of any problems at any of the Disney parks. Having only been to the park in Orlando and the park in Tokyo, Japan, I felt very safe at both locations. This could be because Disney is a very safe place or that the news never gets out. I would imagine that the news never gets out past the cities the parks are located in. By keeping the parks safe, Disney gives the visitors a very good sense of safety. Disney is able to control its own environment for the visitors. It is a very powerful and rich corporation. There is always a Disney staff member around to help with minor accidents. If a child falls and scraped their knee I am sure, that Goofy or Mickey is right around the corner to help comfort the chil d. When Disney staff do this it gives the parents a greater sense of security for their children and themselves. With information booths and staff running around everywhere in costumes the visitors feel safe, especially the visitors with children. If a child gets separated from their parents, it will not be long before the child is returned or kept in a safe place until their parents are located. These are some of the reasons that Disney is a safe and pleasurable place for a family vacation. There is no perceivable danger to the visitors in a trip to Disney World. The world of technology also affects the visitors and workers at Disney. Through great advances in technology, Disney is a safe and almost crime free environment. With the use of surveillance cameras and new technology for rides and other attractions, Disney is a fairly safe place. There are surveillance cameras on the rides to ensure that unruly guests will not exit or disturb the attractions. With this technology making the environment inside Disney safer, the visitors feel safer. The technology at Disney also keeps dishonest and delinquent employees out of trouble. I am sure that the employees are watched as much if not more than the visitors are. If an employee decides to wonder off and take a break on the clock or skim a little amount of money out of the cash register someone will notice. This gives not only the employees a sense of a safe environment to work in; it also gives the visitors the same feeling. Examining School Personnel Roles and Responsibilities It truly does take an army to raise and educate a child. The most recognizable employees within a school district are the teachers. However, they represent only a portion of the personnel that works within the school. School personnel can be divided into three distinct categories including school leaders, faculty, and support staff. Here we examine the essential roles and responsibilities of key school personnel. School Leaders Board of Education – The board of education is ultimately responsible for most decision making in a school. The board of education is made up of elected community members most usually consisting of 5 members. The eligibility requirement for a board member varies by state. The board of education generally meets once per month. They are responsible for hiring the district superintendent. They also generally take into account the recommendations of the superintendent in the decision-making process. Superintendent – The superintendent  oversees the daily operations of the school district as a whole. They are generally responsible for providing recommendations to the school board in a variety of areas. The superintendent’s primary responsibility is handling the financial matters of the school district. They also lobby on behalf of their district with the State government. Assistant Superintendent – A smaller district may not have any assistant superintendents, but a larger district may have several. The assistant superintendent oversees a specific part or parts of a school district’s daily operations. For example, there may be an assistant superintendent for curriculum and another assistant superintendent for transportation. The assistant superintendent is overseen by the district superintendent. Principal – The principal oversees the daily operations of an individual school building within a district. The principal is primarily in charge of overseeing the students and faculty/staff in that building. They are also responsible for building community relationships within their area. The principal is often responsible for interviewing prospective candidates for job openings within their building as well as making recommendations to the superintendent for hiring a new teacher. Assistant Principal – A smaller district may not have any assistant principals, but a large district may have several. The assistant principal may oversee a specific part or parts of a school’s daily operations. For example, there may be an assistant principal who oversees all student discipline either for the entire school or for a particular grade depending on the size of the school. The assistant principal is overseen by the building principal. Athletic Director – The athletic director oversees all of the athletic programs in the district. The athletic director is often the person in charge of all the athletic scheduling. They also often have their hand in the hiring process of new coaches and/or the removal of a coach from their coaching duties. The athletic director also oversees the spending of the athletic department. School Faculty Teacher – Teachers are responsible for providing the students they serve with direct instruction in the area of content in which they specialize. The teacher is expected to use the district-approved curriculum to meet state objectives within that content area. The teacher is responsible for building relationships with parents of children which they serve. Counselor – A counselor’s job is often multifaceted. A counselor provides counseling services for students who may struggle academically, have a rough home life, may have gone through a difficult situation, etc. A counselor also provides academic counseling setting student schedules, getting students scholarships, preparing them for life after high school, etc. In some cases, a counselor may also serve as the testing coordinator for their school. Special Education – A special education teacher is responsible for providing the students they serve with direct instruction in the area of content with which the student has an identified learning disability. The special education teacher is responsible for writing, reviewing, and implementing all Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students served. They also are responsible for scheduling meetings for IEP’s. Speech Therapist – A speech therapist is responsible for identifying students who need speech related services. They are also responsible for providing the specific services needed to those students identified. Finally, they are responsible for writing, reviewing, and implementing all speech related IEPs. Occupational Therapist – An occupational therapist is responsible for identifying students who need occupational therapy related services. They are also responsible for providing the specific services needed to those students identified. Physical Therapist - A physical therapist is responsible for identifying students who need physical therapy related services. They are also responsible for providing the specific services needed to those students identified. Alternative Education – An alternative education teacher is responsible for providing the students they serve with direct instruction. The students they serve often cannot function in a regular classroom often because of discipline related issues, so the alternative education teacher has to be extremely structured and a strong disciplinarian. Library/Media Specialist – A library media specialist oversees the operation of the library including the organization, ordering of books, checking out of books, the return of books, and re-shelving of books. The library media specialist also works directly with the classroom teachers to provide assistance in anything associated with the library. They also are responsible for teaching students library related skills and creating programs that develop lifelong readers. Reading Specialist – A reading specialist works with students who have been identified as struggling readers in a one-on-one or small group setting. A reading specialist assists the teacher in identifying students who are struggling readers as well as finding the specific area of reading which they struggle. A reading specialist’s goal is to get each student they work with on grade level for reading. Intervention Specialist – An intervention specialist is much like a reading specialist. However, they are not just limited to reading and may assist students who struggle in many areas including reading, math, science, social studies, and other subjects. They often fall under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher. Coach – A coach oversees the day to day operations of a specific sports program. Their duties can include organizing practice, scheduling, ordering equipment, and coaching games. They are also in charge of specific game planning including scouting, game strategy, substitution patterns, player discipline, etc. Assistant Coach – An assistant coach helps the head coach in whatever capacity the head coach directs them. They often suggest game strategy, assist in organizing practice, and helps with scouting as needed. School Support Staff Administrative Assistant – An administrative assistant is one of the most important positions in the entire school. A school administrative assistant often knows the day-to-day operations of a school as well as anyone. They are also the person who communicates most often with parents. Their job includes answering phones, mailing letters, organizing files, and a host of other duties. A good administrative assistant screens for the school administrator and makes their job easier. Encumbrance Clerk – The encumbrance clerk has one of the most difficult jobs in the entire school. The encumbrance clerk is not only in charge of school payroll and billing, but a host of other financial responsibilities. The encumbrance clerk has to be able to account for every cent a school has spent and received. An encumbrance clerk must be organized and must stay current with all laws dealing with school finance. School Nutritionist  Ã¢â‚¬â€œ A school nutritionist is responsible for creating a menu that meets state nutrition standards for all meals served at school. They are also responsible for ordering the food that will be served. They also collect and keep up with all monies taken in and spent by the nutrition program. A school nutritionist is also responsible for keeping track of which students are eating and for which students qualify for free/reduced lunches. Teacher‘s Aide – A teacher’s aide assist a classroom teacher in a variety of areas that can include making copies, grading papers, working with small groups of students, contacting parents, and a variety of other tasks. Paraprofessional – A paraprofessional is a trained individual who assists a special education teacher with their day-to-day operations. A paraprofessional may be assigned to one particular student or may help with a class a whole. A paraprofessional works in support of the teacher and does not provide direct instruction. Nurse – A school nurse provides general first aid for students in the school. The nurse may also administer medication to students who need it or are required medication. A school nurse keeps pertinent records on when they see students, what they saw, and how they treated it. A school nurse may also teach students about health and health-related issues. Cook – A cook is responsible for the preparation and serving of food to the entire school. A cook is also responsible for the process of cleaning up the kitchen and the cafeteria. Custodian – A custodian is responsible for the day-to-day cleaning of the school building as a whole. Their duties include vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, etc. They may also assist in other areas such as mowing, moving heavy items, etc. Maintenance – Maintenance is responsible for keeping all the physical operations of a school running. If something is broke, then maintenance is responsible for repairing it. These may including electrical and lighting, air and heating, and mechanical issues. Computer Technician – A computer technician is responsible for assisting school personnel with any computer issue or question that may arise. Those may include issues with email, the internet, viruses, etc. A computer technician should provide service and maintenance to all school computers to keep them running so that they may be used as needed. They are also responsible for server maintenance and the installation of filter programs and features. Bus Driver – A bus driver provides safe transportation for students to and from school.
